Sleep had turned me upside down,
So I walked to the edge of Chinatown.
I went to my haunt of seven years,
Nobody really knows me there.

I saw a wicker man who lost his way,
Went to the mountain for forty days.
Spoke to the fire but lost his nerve.
What did he learn?

I sat among the denim pushers,
Writers, mothers, dealers, teachers,
Healers, dreamers and wayward spouses,
And pretty things from red light houses.

He was a family man who lost his faith,
Wrote to the girl for seven days.
Caught a train downtown but lost his nerve.
What did he learn?
And what did he deserve?
